IPWA Plc (Formerly International Paints West Africa Limited) is the second paint company to be established in Nigeria (1961) but the FIRST to manufacture Paint in Nigeria. We inherited our technology and expertise from international paints United Kingdom, now a member of AKZO NOBEL GROUP world wide (the biggest Paint Company in the world). Our paints are available in various colors and are produced to meet international standards.

Company History

IPWA plc,( formerly International Paints West Africa Limited) was incorporated as a public Company on the 23rd January, 1961 to manufacture, market and sell paints, varnishes and allied products.

At inception, the Company was 100% owned by international Paints (Holdings) Limited (IPH), a wholly owned subsidiary of international Paints plc – formerly International Paints Company limited, U.K (IPC) which was wholly owned by Courtaulds Limited (CCL), is a major manufacturer of marine paints, industrial coatings, packaging coatings and decorative paints.

In compliance with the provisions of the Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Decree of 1972 and 1977 which required at least 40% equity participation by Nigerians, IPH released 60% of its holdings to Nigerian citizens and associates thus reducing its equity to 40%.
The issued share capital of the company is N179, 393,617 which made up of 358, 787, 235 ordinary shares of 50k each held as at 31 December 2006. IPWA’s strength and opportunities in the Nigeria paint industry remain high. By virtue of its products profile, IPWA plc is the most diversified paint manufacturing Company in Nigeria, producing highly technological Marine , Protective, Packaging, Industrial and coil coatings in addition to Building Paints, Wood Finishes and Automotive Refinishes.
IPWA plc is a major supplier of paints to service companies in oil and gas industry, steel plants, petrochemical and the refineries. Indeed, it controls about 30% of the total market in the marine and protective coatings in Nigeria. The revenue from oil and gas industry accounts for about 98% of Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings. As a key player in the marine and protective coatings market with superior technology, our Company is well positioned to take full advantage of its competitive edge.
Building Paints, Nigerlux (Superfine and Superior), Leader Gloss and Glamour Emulsion, have been certified by the Standards Organization of Nigeria to carry the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) Certification Mark for product quality. We indeed, belong to the first generation of Nigerian paints to be so certified. We are Certified on ISO 14000 meant for Environmental Management System.
